Cupola Grant from Oregon Arts Commission!

iron pour scene, originally uploaded by Ben Stagl Website.

***IRON POUR NEWS*** If you are one of those around Portland interested in the rumors about a series of pattern-making workshops and a community iron pour this next fall there is good news! Thanks to generous support by the Oregon Arts Commission we have been awarded funding to build our cupola to melt the iron! While the cupola fabrication is only one facet of this effort it is an important one and gets the ball rolling with a good start. There is still a lot of fundraising and volunteer help that will be needed along the way to make this thing happen. I will include these iron pour updates here in my blog until a space can be developed exclusively for iron pour news.

Here is a newly edited video documenting a performance for the Enteractive Languages Festival from November, 2004. The sound clip is a live recorded session composed by DJ Jenkins. For this performance I cast 60 bronze medallions and distributed them to the crowd. Participants were directed to an Alchemy station upstairs where they could have their token mysteriously "imbued" with a chemical patina. The performance was complimented by a theramine and other interactive sound and video elements. Among the magical properties advertized one could have their medallion imbued into a talisman,
an amulet, or any number of similar generalities.

Here I apply a Cobalt patina to a bronze sink.

something I saw

A wheat-paste urban intervention. While the graffiti removal task force removed the surrounding tag work on this building a few days after this was pasted up, somehow this one managed to survive? Ink on Paper.
