Aspire is a civically endorsed installation intended for the 400 block SW Broadway, inspired by the youth of the non-profit organization Program:Education, Art, Recreation.
p:ear provides creative mentoring for transitional youth. By providing access to education, art, and recreational activities, p:ear helps to build bridges and connections between youth who have been marginalized from traditional transitions into adulthood and the community which surrounds them. By nurturing a positive self image, p:ear facilitates the necessary mindset in these youth to overcome the obstacles and adversities they face, with the goal of enabling them to thrive instead of merely survive.
If erected, this installation will perform as a marker for the tremendous necessity of civic duty p:ear as an organization facilitates on weekly basis for those homeless and transitional youth who have no where else to turn. It will be complimented by an extension of the p:ear gallery within the Hotel along with a description of the project. The p:ear Gallery regularly exhibits artworks made by the youth at p:ear alongside work by professional artists within the community.
