wood, light, sound
I intend to draw attention to some of the less looked at spaces of our urban landscape and promote creative thought when approaching them.
I plan to construct the installation space of the Portland Building to reflect the architectures present below the east end of the Marquam Bridge as seen from the perspective of OMSI and the Eastbank Esplanade.
For the bridges materials I will use Masonite and internal wood structure, preparing major forms beforehand to reduce installation time. The bridge form itself will run high near the track lighting creating a shaded environment below the bridge itself. The supporting pillars and massive cross support will be the central focus this installation, and will be constructed of Masonite as well.
Additionally I plan to have subtle sonic elements not loud enough to disturb business. Within the bridges structure I will include small speakers softly playing sounds of the road and river.
